Bio
Dr. Lane Summerlin is an active percussionist residing in Indianapolis, Indiana. Lane is an Associate Professor at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) where he teaches courses in percussion. Lane also teaches at Carmel High School where he maintains a large studio of private lesson students, instructs the marching band, and percussion ensembles. Prior to working at Carmel and IUPUI, Lane taught at both Franklin College and Center Grove High School.
Dr. Summerlin currently serves as the Front Ensemble Coordinator for Rhythm X. He is also a front ensemble educator at The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. Prior to joining the Cavaliers staff, Lane instructed the Troopers, Colts, and Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps, where he also served as Percussion Caption Head.
Lane received his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from The Ohio State University, where his focus was percussion performance. His academic research is centered on the history and development of the front ensemble in Drum Corps International; his publication is the first to focus on the subject.
Dr. Summerlin holds a Master of Music degree from The Ohio State University, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
